I only played for about 20 minutes so take that as you will when reading this. This game literally lifts UI and gameplay mechanics directly from Homeworld. This is not the same as trying to expand on Homeworld's ideas, which other games have done; I mean this game literally uses the exact same UI elements and mechanics, except everything is implemented way worse. It even tries to imitate Homeworld's hand-drawn/sketched cutscenes by using renders of gameplay with a digital filter put over it to make it LOOK hand-drawn.The only original part of this game is the ability to choose what part of space to go to next. Unoriginality is not a problem in itself as long as you iterate on the old ideas with new ones, but this game doesn't do that. The issue with something being this unoriginal is that you can just play the game that it cribbed from (Homeworld) and get the same style of gameplay with a guaranteed better overall experience. This game is lazy and at times downright broken, though admittedly playable. The base price right now is half that of Homeworld Remastered, so if it was patched so the controls didn't suck, that would be the ONLY case in which I would recommend it. For now though: just wait for a 50% sale and drop 10 bucks on Homeworld: Remastered!. Iff Homeworld and Battlestar Galactica had an illegitimate lovechild that this would be it.It still needs a lot of polish and a lot of improvement but so far it looks nice. The ship design could be better and everything is a bit too monotone. Units tend to explode when you look at them and fighters are pretty useless and suffer from the same problems as Homeworld 1 Remastered. They fly around randomly and are realy fragile. But since this is early acces i'm sure that they will improve on this. The battle music got me giddy the first time i heard it. Lots of drums. I almost tought that i was commander Adama ordering my vipers to scramble.. crappy... the idea was cool but... well the mere fact you cant zoom in properly is baffleing to me.. most games youd be able to hold down your scroll wheel and swivel the camera around not here... I feel like Im playing the entire game from a tactical prespective so they can skimp on the graphics and just make the back ground look pretty. the game "FTL" Is hounestly far FAR better then this and if you had combat like the pictures up there^ and could zoom in then it MIGHT make it at least semi decent... withen half an hour your likely to have found all the events and they dont change... just jump survive mine/kill blah blah blah what ever move on... that is the ENTIRE game... the game star wars rebelion made in 1998 had more in depth events and creativty and that is a massive shame. intersting idea but fell short on well tbh, tatics, units, events, combat,graphics... oh wait no... the gack ground looked nice I guess?. A great game. Homeworld meets FTL in a sense, with that Battlestar Galactica scenario making it intense at sometimes!Great for a fresh new game to play. Not very long, but very fun.. Good gameplay once you get used to it it becomes less awkward. I still love the game.
